Medical dermatology refers to a subspecialty of dermatology in which practitioners focus on medical skin conditions which are typically complex and affect other organ systems.  The treatment of these complex medical conditions ranges from topical therapies to systemic therapies which may have risk of severe side effects.  Some of these medications may be strongly immunosuppressive and/or have overlap in their use as chemotherapy.  A person’s general philosophy and lifestyle, ability to adhere to regular monitoring, and commitment to a regimen that incorporates health of body and mind should be considered when determining the choice of treatment.
